Time and page limits are there to protect you (and your supervisors). In IEM, the main thesis period starts after your project plan is approved—that is when the clock really starts. Plan your scope and evaluation so you can finish within the official window without panic at the end.
Page limits generally refer to the main text and exclude front matter and appendices, but always confirm the current rules on Canvas.
BSc Thesis
- Credits: 15 EC
- Duration: Finish within 10 weeks from project plan approval (green-light approval is required before the colloquium).
- Page Limit: Up to 40 pages (excluding table of contents, appendices, etc.).
MSc Thesis
- Credits: 30 EC
- Duration: Finish within 20 weeks from project plan approval (green-light approval is required before the colloquium).
- Page Limit: Up to 70 pages (excluding table of contents, appendices, etc.).
Extensions
- Extensions of up to 50% (5 weeks for BSc, 10 weeks for MSc) can be authorized by the program director in special circumstances. If you think you need this, bring it up early so we can plan it properly.
